Crunchy Fried Tomatoes

Servings: 4

4 firm ripe or green medium tomatoes (about l/2 pounds)
1 egg, beaten
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1/3 cup butter or margarine
Salt and pepper

Wash tomatoes; cut into slices. Dip slices into egg and then into crumbs. Melt butter in large skillet. Add tomato slices; cook, turning once, until golden brown. Season to taste.
