Beefy Lentil Soup

1 lb. ground beef
1 cup lentils
1 cup chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped cabbage
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 bay leaf
4 bouillon cubes
5 3/4 cup tomato juice
4 cup water

Brown meat. Add rest of ingredients. Simmer 1 1/2 hours, or until vegetables are tender. Makes 3 quarts.
