French Onion Soup

Servings: 8

6 medium-size onions, sliced
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
6 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 teaspoons salt
Melba toast rounds or French bread, sliced and toasted
Grated Parmesan cheese

Sauté onions in butter or margarine in large saucepan until lightly brown. Add beef broth; cover; cook about 15 to 20 minutes or until onions are tender. Add salt. To serve, bring soup to boiling; ladle into soup cups or bowls. Top each with melba toast or French bread toast slice and Parmesan cheese.
